Pink Connect, the local business telecommunications firm has stepped in to save a Nottinghamshire charity which was facing possible closure. The Nottingham Deaf Society has been helping deaf and partially hearing people in the city for more than a hundred years but with a £25,000 shortfall each year, keeping the society going has been difficult..
James Pink, the Managing Director of Pink Connect contacted the Nottingham Deaf Society after hearing of their money worries and offered to install a new telephone system, which could save the charity thousands each year. "What this small charity does is amazing, with one in seven of us having a hearing problem, the number of people they were helping in their community centre, interpreting services for GP's and welfare services was incredible. It is a desperately needed service but their phone system was really old and cost far too much for them to run."
Kam Aujla, who runs the Pink Connect franchise in Nottingham arranged for the installation of a new phone system and lines where each member of staff has a direct line with voicemail and new Mincom lines installed to help partially hearing people. The new service almost halved the old telephone bill and the charity will end up saving almost two thousand pounds every year as well as the system now really working for everyone.
Sarah Shaw from The Nottingham Deaf Society says, "It's made such a difference, we knew we had to make savings to make sure we can continue to offer our services, but as a charity we don't have much to spend, despite that other companies still came in offering to upgrade the system, one said it would cost five and a half thousand pounds, but Pink Connect did it for under two thousand pounds. The people at Pink Connect were wonderful, they didn't try to sell us anything we didn't need, in fact they drastically cut our costs and even made a donation to support us, it's the little touches that make all the difference, we simply can't fault them."
The charity is now starting a major push to increase donations to secure the charity's future as they celebrate their 120th anniversary next year. James Pink, the managing director of Pink Connect says; "Business is about sharing and we are proud to have helped the Nottingham Deaf Society secure their future. Making savings through reviewing overheads helps every business and charity organisation. We urge people to take a few minutes to see if we can save them money."
